Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH)
The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) was founded in 2000 and is the largest research centre in Northern Greece with the mission to carry out basic and applied research with special emphasis on exploiting research results and developing new products and services with industrial, economic and social impact. In 2012, CERTH was ranked first among all research centres in Greece regarding the absorbed funding from the FP7-ICT Programme during the period 2007-2011. CERTH will participate in KONFIDO with 2 Institutes, the Information Technologies Institute (ITI) and the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB).
The Information Technologies Institute (ITI) was founded in 1998 as a non-profit organisation under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of Greece, with its head office located in Thessaloniki, Greece. Since 10.3.2000 it is a founding member of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) also supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT).CERTH/ITI has demonstrated important scientific and technological achievements in many areas includingHuman Computer Interaction, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Multimedia, Database and Information Systems, Social Media Analysis, Cultural and Educational Technology, as well as several cross-disciplinary scientific areas.CERTH/ITI has participated in more than 60 research projects funded by the European Commission and more than 85 research projects funded by Greek National Research Programmes and Consulting Subcontracts with the Private Sector (I&T Industry). In 2015, the Information Technologies Institute attracted a revenue of 15.5 M€ from European Horizon 2020 R&D projects.
The Visual Analytics, Virtual Reality and Augmented reality Lab of CERTH/ITI has been particularly active during the last ten years in the field of eHealth, VR&AR, interoperability, security and simulation - modelling. As a result, the team has been involved in several R&D projects participating as technical leader and/or as coordinator.
The Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) aims to bridge the gap between biomedical research excellence and applications meeting the evolving needs of the end-user. INAB has an extensive network of collaborations throughout Greece, neighbouring countries, Europe and the rest of the world with joint activities with more than 15 academic and research institutions in Greece, public agencies and private companies in more than 80 research programs. The INAB team that participates in KONFIDO has experience in conducting research in the areas of biomedical informatics with a major emphasis on the development of health information systems and eHealth / telehealth applications. Indicative recent EU-funded projects include AEGLE, InLife and PATHway in H2020, Prosperity4All, Cloud4all and universAAL (in FP7), while the team coordinated the REMOTE AAL project. INAB’s areas of technical expertise relevant with KONFIDO activities include design and development of health information systems, pervasive/mobile health systems, health information modelling and processing, human-computer interaction, semantic interoperability in healthcare systems as well as standards in the field of eHealth (FHIR, HL7 CDA, CEN TC251). The above competences enable INAB to conduct research in a broad range of eHealth areas and applications spanning from concept design to development and evaluation in real-life settings.
