The KONFIDO project aims to advance the state-of-the-art of eHealth technology with respect to the four key dimensions of digital security: data preservation, data access and modification, data exchange and interoperability and compliance.
In order to address the challenges of secure storage and exchange of eHealth data, protection and control over personal data and security of health related data collected by mobile devices, KONFIDO takes on a holistic approach by targeting all architectural layers of an IT infrastructure, such as storage, dissemination, processing and presentation. KONFIDO will make use of and extend the results of a series of successful previous projects, namely – epSOS, STORK, DECIPHER, EXPAND and ANTILOPE.
KONFIDO’s implementation approach is based upon six technology pillars:
- The new security extensions provided by some of the main CPU vendors;
- Physical Unclonable Function (PUF)-based security solutions that are based on photonic technologies;
- Homomorphic encryption mechanisms;
- Customized extensions of the selected Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions;
- A set of disruptive logging and auditing mechanisms developed in other technology sectors – such as blockchain – and transferred to the healthcare domain;
- A customized STORK-compliant eID implementation.
Given that KONFIDO makes use of already widely accepted results and that it exploits a series of complementary technologies, some of which have already reached a high level of maturity, there is a significant potential concerning the cross-sector transfer of innovation in the field of coordinated care in respect to an improved acceptance of healthcare solutions.
The proposed solutions will be tested in a realistic setup and deployed upon a federated cloud-based infrastructure so as to exchange data and achieve interoperability of services cross-border.
